Reopening of Stan Siwik Pool delayed for second time

Jan 8, 2026 | 2:26 PM

The City of Lethbridge says swimmers will have to wait a little bit longer to return to one of its pools.

They say that work continues toward reopening the Stan Siwik Pool, which closed for annual maintenance on Dec. 1, 2025.

It was originally scheduled to be finished by Dec. 22, but was delayed into January.

Now, the City says unforeseen issues with the basin have pushed it back again to Jan. 26, 2026.

All swimming lessons that had been set for January 12-March 21 will not run January 26-March 28.

Recreation Excellence will contact all impacted families and issue account credit for lessons that cannot be rescheduled.

The Fritz Sick, Nicholas Sheran, and Cor Van Raay YMCA pools remain open for public use.

The City says it appreciates the public’s patience and understanding as they work to ensure the facility is safe, fully operational, and ready to welcome swimmers back.
