If you still need to get rid of your live Christmas tree, now is your chance.

The City of Lethbridge says its annual Christmas Tree Collection program will take place on Saturday, January 10.

All you need to do to participate is leave your tree at your normal curbside collection spot by 7:00 a.m.

Volunteers will sweep the entire city in one day, so residents are asked to leave the tree out all day.

Christmas trees must be completely bare and ready for chipping.

Decorations, tinsel, plastics, and tree stands must be removed, and trees with decorations will not be collected.

“While volunteers do their best to be thorough and sweep every neighbourhood, they are not professional operations crews. Missed trees can happen,” reads a notice from the City of Lethbridge.

If your tree does not get picked up on Jan. 10, you can phone 311. Missed collections will be scheduled for the following Saturday, Jan. 17.

Each year, the City of Lethbridge partners with local youth groups for the Christmas Tree Collection.

More than 1.5 million kilograms, or approximately 95,000 trees, have been diverted from the landfill since the program’s inception.

Collected trees are turned into nutrient-rich compost or mulched for residents and Parks staff to use.
