A major shakeup in the Lethbridge Hurricanes organization as its general manager steps down.

Doug Paisley, President of the Hurricanes Board of Directors, says he has accepted the resignation of Peter Anholt, effective immediately.

“After a WHL disciplinary investigation, the Lethbridge Hurricanes have accepted the resignation of General Manager Peter Anholt. It was mutually determined that this is the best path forward following the conclusion of the investigation. The claim alleged Anholt breached the WHL Standard of Conduct with respect to threatening and intimidating language. The Lethbridge Hurricanes will move forward with the highest commitment to fostering a positive player environment,” says Paisley.

Anholt was suspended by the club in November 2025 following an incident after a regular-season game against the Edmonton Oil Kings this season.

The team previously stated that Anholt used “intimidating behaviour and language.”

After a one-week suspension for Anholt and a $10,000 fine for the Hurricanes organization, Anholt returned to work in late November.

Now, however, the Canes have announced that Senior Advisor Barclay Parneta will assume G.M. duties on an interim basis for the remainder of the 2025-26 season.

Paisley says, “The Hurricanes are pleased to move forward with Barclay Parneta as the Interim General Manager for the balance of the 2025-2026 WHL Season. We are confident in Barclay with his extensive experience as a General Manager in our league and are fortunate to have already had him on staff as a Senior Advisor with the Hurricanes.”

Parneta was hired by the club in August 2025.

He spent the previous seven seasons as the G.M. for the Vancouver Giants and helped to lead them to a WHL Championship in 2019.

His time with the WHL spans 30 years in various roles with the Hurricanes, Giants, Tri-City Americans, and Medicine Hat Tigers, while also having previously been a scout in the NHL for the St. Louis Blues and Phoenix Coyotes.
