Province aiming to energize Alberta’s alliances at U.S. forum
Alberta MLA Angela Pitt is south of the border aiming to actively engage with U.S. legislators at a National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) meeting in San Diego Jan. 15 to 18.
Government officials say Pitt will ensure her time with decision-makers from across the U.S. advances progress made last year to raise Alberta’s profile as the top choice for secure and reliable partnerships in energy, emissions reduction technologies, agriculture and agri-food, artificial intelligence and more.
“This conference is an opportunity to continue our efforts to strengthen our trade and investment ties with our longest-standing trading partner,” said Pitt in a press release this week. “I look forward to getting face time with U.S. state policymakers to keep Alberta’s momentum going and make sure my U.S. counterparts see the true value in partnering with Alberta to establish energy and economic security.”
Officials say the NCSL was established in 1975 by state legislators and legislative staff and brings together lawmakers and government leaders from all 50 U.S. states, commonwealths, territories and the District of Columbia. The conference promotes cooperation and information exchanges between state legislators in the U.S. and in other countries. Provincial officials say Alberta formalized its role in the NCSL by becoming an affiliate member of the organization and a member of its International Advisory Council in 2024.
