AGLC now accepting requests for expanded liquor service hours during Olympic Games

Alberta Gaming, Liquor, and Cannabis (AGLC) announced that licensed stores will have the option to expand their hours of liquor service during the upcoming Winter Olympic Games.

Albertans will be cheering on Team Canada during the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Games, from February 6 to 22 and during that time, Alberta establishments will be able to submit notice when they plan to expand hours of liquor service during the medal rounds for all Olympic sporting events.

The AGLC says licensees are required to provide notice at least three working days before the event, and although there’s an eight-hour time difference, there will be no blanket approval for extended liquor service hours.

Criteria for expanded hours include:

• The event can be any Olympic sport, 

• The licensee cannot be open a full 24 hours, 

• The licensee must be closed for at least one hour before the event and one hour after the event during expanded hours liquor service, and  

• A food menu based on licence type must be available during the approved expanded hours of liquor service. 

 Licensees can submit notice, with their full operating name and licensing number, to inspections.mailbox@aglc.ca.
