Two drivers charged in separate, suspected impaired driving collisions
Lethbridge Police have charged two males with impaired driving offences following two, unrelated collisions during the early morning hours Sunday.
On Jan. 18, just before 12:30 a.m., police and EMS responded to a report of a single vehicle rollover involving a Jeep Patriot in the westbound lanes of Whoop Up Drive under the Scenic Drive overpass.
According to police, there were three male occupants inside the vehicle and one was transported to hospital for treatment of serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. Following further investigation, officers allege the 24-year-old driver was found to be impaired and subsequently charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm and dangerous operation causing bodily harm.
Approximately 1.5 hours later, at 2 a.m., an officer travelling westbound in the 500 block of 6 Avenue South observed an Audi that had collided with a light standard on the median. A male driver allegedly exited the vehicle, but upon seeing police, jumped back into the driver’s seat. Police say they prevented the vehicle from leaving the scene and the driver was subsequently arrested. Following further investigation, police say the 26-year-old driver was issued an Immediate Roadside Sanction – Fail resulting in a 30-day seizure of his vehicle, 12-month license suspension and $1,000 fine.
