The City of Lethbridge is reminding business owners that the deadline for mandatory waste diversion reports is coming up quickly.

They say the reports for 2025 are due on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026.

The municipality says they only take a few minutes to fill out, and companies need to report what kinds of waste their business generates, if it gets sorted for recycling or compost, and how it gets collected.

There are more than 2,900 businesses and organizations in the city.

Regardless of size, the City says they must follow the Mandatory Recycling and Organics Requirements in Waste Bylaw 6146.

Home-based businesses follow the regular residential waste and recycling rules and do not need to submit a report.

According to the City of Lethbridge, the industrial, commercial and institutional (ICI) sector makes up nearly two-thirds of all waste in the landfill each year. By submitting reports, they say ICI members can help to reduce waste and divert more of it from the landfill.
