Lethbridge County issues fire restriction

Feb 6, 2026 | 11:57 AM

The warm temperatures, sustained winds, and a lack of precipitation mean fire restrictions are back in effect.

Lethbridge County issued the fire restriction at 10:45 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 6, saying the risk of wildfires has significantly increased over the last several days.

All active burn and fireworks permits are now cancelled, and no new permits will be issued.

Prohibited under the Fire Restriction:

  • Controlled burns requiring a burn permit (e.g. burn pits, yard waste, large debris)
  • Fireworks

Allowed: (Must meet the specifications in the County’s Fire Bylaw)

  • Recreational campfires in approved fire pits
  • Burn barrels and incinerators with spark arrestors
  • Charcoal briquette barbecues and wood pellet grills
  • CSA/ULC-approved gas or propane stoves, heaters, and firepits
