The Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) has announced that a new collective agreement has been ratified for thousands of healthcare workers.

Approximately 89.2 per cent of Nursing Care workers at Covenant Health facilities voted “yes” to ratify their new deal.

A spokesperson for AUPE tells LNN that the deal impacts approximately 2,500 nurses across many health centres in the province.

It includes facilities in Lethbridge such as Buffalo Grace Manor, Martha’s House, St. Michael’s Health Centre and St. Therese Villa.

AUPE President Sandra Azocar says, “This new agreement significantly improves wages and working conditions for Covenant Health’s nursing care staff.”

Nursing Care staff will receive a 12 per cent raise over four years, as well as the following market adjustments:

  • 10% for all Licensed Practical Nurses
  • 4% for certified and uncertified Health Care Aides

“Our work is far from over,” says Azocar. “AUPE members across the province will now have the chance to regroup and reorganize as we prepare for more bargaining when this agreement expires in 2028.”
