Recall petition against MLA Nathan Neudorf ends, awaiting results

Feb 24, 2026 | 10:29 AM

We are waiting to learn how many signatures were gathered in an effort to recall the MLA for Lethbridge-East.

Elections Alberta confirms that Monday, Feb. 23, 2026, was the last day on which people could sign a petition against Nathan Neudorf, who also serves as Alberta’s Minister of Affordability and Utilities.

The petition was formally launched on Nov. 25, 2025.

The proponent of the petition was Ryan Tanner, an elusive figure whom no media has been able to contact.

In order for the recall petition to be successful, organizers needed to collect 13,207 signatures, or 60 per cent of the votes cast in the riding during the most recent provincial election.

Many residents of Lethbridge have expressed frustrations with Tanner, as they have been unable to sign the petition or volunteer as canvassers.

That led to speculation that Tanner might have been working with Neudorf to suppress efforts to kick him out of office.

During an interview with LNN on Dec. 12, however, Neudorf said that this was not true, and that he does not even know Tanner.

“Maybe I have met him, to be perfectly honest, but I’m not aware of it,” Neudorf said back in December. “Both in my current job and in my former job in construction, I meet thousands of people a year, so I couldn’t say definitively, but no, I don’t have a relationship with him in any way, and I’m not involved in any way in my own recall petition.”

Now that the signature-gathering period has come to an end, Neudorf tells LNN that he is “deeply honoured” to continue to serve as the MLA for the “incredibly passionate and engaged residents of Lethbridge-East.

With the recall process now behind us, my focus remains exactly where it has always been: delivering results for Lethbridge-East. This includes three new schools, investments in significant upgrades to the Renal Program at the Chinook Regional Hospital, and the new doctors medical training program at the University of Lethbridge,” says Neudorf.

He adds, “I remain steadfast in my commitment to serve every constituent, including those who have had concerns or felt unheard. It is a privilege to be your MLA, and I will continue working tirelessly to earn your confidence as we work together to build a better, brighter future for Lethbridge-East and Alberta.”

Elections Alberta must publish the results of the recall petition within the next 28 days.
