WestJet discontinuing Lethbridge-Calgary, Medicine Hat-Calgary flights

Travellers in southern Alberta will need to find other ways of getting to the province’s largest city.

WestJet has announced that it will be discontinuing its year-round, non-stop scheduled air service between Lethbridge and Calgary, as well as Medicine Hat and Calgary.

The airline said in a statement to LNN that “The decision to end air service is never taken lightly, and we understand this is disappointing news for the two communities and apologize for the impact this may have.”

It continues, “The WestJet Group has served these routes for several years, and despite efforts to support viability, demand for the services has been insufficient.”

The last date of service on both routes will be June 24, 2026.

Anyone who has reservations booked for June 25 or beyond will be notified of the options for a refund.

There are currently no other commercial airlines that fly in and out of the Lethbridge Airport.

Lethbridge City Council was already set to discuss airport incentives at its meeting on Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 24.

“In light of this new development, Council is planning further discussions on this topic,” reads a statement from the City of Lethbridge. “We will provide an update to the community once Council has had the opportunity to discuss and provide direction.”

The City announced on July 10, 2025, that it was exploring options to expand service at the Lethbridge Airport.
