RCMP identify Calgary man in Foothills County suspicious death

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police Major Crimes Unit is investigating after human remains were found in a burned vehicle south of Longview, Alta., earlier this month.

On Feb. 4 at approximately 8:30 p.m., RCMP say they responded to a grass fire along with emergency crews.

After the fire was extinguished, Mounties say a burned vehicle containing unidentified human remains was located.

In a release issued Feb. 26, the deceased was identified as a 24-year-old resident of Calgary.

RCMP say his death is considered suspicious.

RCMP are seeking assistance in the investigation.

Officers are looking for anyone with surveillance or dash camera video from Feb. 4, 2026, between 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., in Foothills County, on roads near the intersection of Highway 22 and Highway 540.

The area is south of Longview, near the Bar U Ranch National Historic Site.

Investigators are specifically looking for footage of a blue or grey 2022 Dodge Ram pickup truck with a tonneau cover.
