Amazon Canada has announced a new partnership that aims to improve delivery times in southern Alberta.

The online retail giant has announced its latest Local Delivery Service Partner (LDSP), Lethbridge’s RHAY Logistics.

The company says it represents a newer business model for Amazon in Canada, in which facilities are operated by independent business owners, who contract with Amazon to build and operate their own local delivery service.

Customer orders are sorted at nearby Amazon delivery stations and shipped by Amazon to the new sites, where they are delivered by LDSPs and loaded onto delivery vehicles for the final journey to customers’ doorsteps.

It is part of Amazon’s efforts to improve what it calls its “last-mile delivery network.”

RHAY Logistics has opened a 20,000 square foot facility in the Churchill Industrial Park.

Owner Aminat Popoola says she and her drivers are proud to be part of the local community.

“Our team in Lethbridge and the surrounding area are hearing positive feedback from local customers, who appreciate the dedication of our drivers and our commitment to supporting local businesses and charities,” says Popoola.

Amazon has more than 46,000 employees in Canada and runs nearly 70 operations.
