Province investing in seniors lodges in southern Alberta

The Alberta government says it is committing more than $200 million to build and upgrade seniors housing across the province.

The funding is part of the province’s Seniors Lodge Modernization Program, which funds the construction of new seniors homes and upgrades to existing facilities.

If adopted, Budget 2026 would commit $150 million over the next three years to the program.

The $150 million would be an addition to nearly $54 million already allocated to six projects in smaller communities across Alberta.

In southern Alberta, the province says roughly $9 million is going towards the Clearview Lodge project in Taber through the Taber and District Housing Foundation.

Another $5.8 million is set to support the Piyami Lodge project in Picture Butte through the Green Acres Foundation.

The province is also providing $8.3 million for the Peter Dawson Lodge project in Vulcan through the Marquis Foundation.

In total, the province says the more than $200 million investment would support more than 1,000 seniors housing units across Alberta.

Jason Nixon says seniors have made enormous contributions to their communities and deserve housing that allows them to age with dignity.

The next intake for the Seniors Lodge Modernization Program applications is expected to open in the fall of 2026.
