Police say first-degree murder charges have been laid against two people in relation to the death of missing B.C. mathematician Masood Masjoody.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says Masjoody’s remains were found in Mission, B.C., on March 6.

Police say 48-year-old Mehdi Ahmadzadeh Razavi of Maple Ridge and 45-year-old Arezou Soltani of North Vancouver have now been charged with first-degree murder

The homicide team says in a statement that Razavi and Soltani were arrested Friday.

Burnaby RCMP said last month that officers were investigating after “concerned neighbours” reported Masjoody missing, and Mounties determined that “criminality was involved” in his disappearance.

Police say investigators pieced together a timeline leading up to him going missing and found evidence that he was the victim of a homicide, and say an “extensive search” involving multiple police units including police dogs and Mission Search and Rescue assisted in the search.
