Lethbridge Polytechnic to offer new Pre-Veterinary Medicine diploma

Mar 16, 2026 | 4:12 PM

Applications are open for Lethbridge Polytechnic’s new Pre-Veterinary Medicine program.

Launching in fall 2026, officials say the diploma prepares students for advanced professional studies in veterinary medicine, covering specialized courses in animal genetics, biochemistry, anatomy, physiology, and nutrition.

Over the two-year program, the students will also participate in hands-on lab experiences and a strong scientific foundation for their future careers.

“Our new Pre-Veterinary Medicine program reflects Lethbridge Polytechnic’s commitment to building pathways for students,” says Dr. Kevin Smith, dean, Centre for Business, Arts and Sciences. “By combining foundational learning and clear transfer opportunities, we are preparing students who are passionate about science and animal health for success in professional programs and high-demand careers in the field.”

The program holds a transfer agreement with the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, and students can continue directly with the polytechnic’s Bachelor of Agriculture Sciences post-diploma degree, pursue the Medical College Admission Test, or enter the workforce as a lab assistant, animal researcher, or more.

More information about the program can be found at the Polytechnic’s website or at their winter Open House Saturday, Mar. 21, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
