Farming Smarter donates 17,000 pounds of potatoes to Interfaith Food Bank

The Interfaith Food Bank Society of Lethbridge is thanking Farming Smarter for a big donation of potatoes.

17,000 lbs of potatoes were donated to Interfaith between September and December 2025 to be given to people in need.

The potatoes were grown as part of field trials to examine yield responses to various fertility rates.

“As we processed the potatoes for data—we measure them and weigh them – there was this opportunity to get new donations throughout the fall that suited their needs well,” says Ken Coles, Executive Director at Farming Smarter. “It was a win-win situation.”

Through their Food Share program, Interfaith was able to provide the potatoes to not just their own clients but also other foodbanks in the region, as well as schools, homeless shelters, soup kitchens, and more.

Executive Director Danielle McIntyre says she was grateful to receive the haul.

“Donations coming in at any time is impactful, but it was really nice to have the volumes coming in the way you did.”

With the potatoes divided into 10 lb bags, Interfaith’ s Food Bank had enough spuds to go to as many as 1,700 homes.
