Chem Guys set for final show in Lethbridge

Mar 26, 2026 | 1:10 PM

After 25 years of science demonstrations, the Chem Guys are suiting up for their final performance.

John Eng and Wayne Lippa, of the University of Lethbridge’s Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, have been on stage since the early 2000s, the university says, with shows intended to make chemistry fun and accessible.

Eng, who is retiring after a 40-year career, is set to take the stage with Lippa one last time on April 9 at 6 p.m. at the Co-op Centre for Sport & Wellness.

The event is part of the university’s Owen Holmes Lecture Series.

The University of Lethbridge says proceeds from the show will support a new scholarship for future chemistry and biochemistry students.

“What we do is try to make chemistry approachable, not so scary,” Eng said.

The duo has performed at events across Canada and opened for acts including Bill Nye the Science Guy and MythBusters.

Former student Danika Dorchak said the Chem Guys helped inspire her path in science.

“ Their excitement and energy showed me that chemistry is fun,” she said.

Tickets are free for children 15 and under, and $10 for general admission.
