Piikani Nation protest planned on environmental rights
The Piikani Nation says it has serious and long-standing concerns over environmental issues – especially the degradation of its water resources.
Officials say those concerns have been largely ignored, so members of the Piikani Nation will host a protest and community learning event on Saturday, March 28 at 10:00 a.m., focused on issues related to land, water and the rights and interests of the Nation. Organizers say they want their voices to be heard.
The event is expected to bring together community members, leadership, and supporters to raise awareness, share information, and discuss the impacts of current land and water-related issues affecting the Piikani Nation.
Organizers say the gathering will include speakers and community perspectives, noting local politicians have been invited.
