Police charge female with drug trafficking offences

Lethbridge Police have charged a female in connection with drug trafficking offences targeting members of the vulnerable population. 

In mid-March, LPS says members of the Downtown Policing Unit, with support from the Crime Suppression Team and SCAN, initiated a short term investigation. Police observed a female subject repeatedly interacting with members of the unhoused population, including activity consistent with drug trafficking. In addition, police say they observed further drug trafficking activity occurring at a residence along the 1800 block of 1 A Avenue North. 

On March 25, LPS says officers executed a search warrant at the property and located significant quantities of drug paraphernalia. One female and one male were arrested away from the residence during a drug transaction in progress. During a search of the subjects incidental to arrest, police allegedly seized approximately eight grams of fentanyl, 19 grams of methamphetamine and just under $1000 in cash proceeds of crime. 

A 39-year-old Lethbridge woman is charged with trafficking a controlled substance, two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a controlled substance, possession of the proceeds of crime under $5,000 and failing to comply with release order conditions. LPS says the woman is remanded in custody and scheduled to appear in court April 2. 

A 29-year-old Lethbridge man is also charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance and four counts of failing to comply with release orders. LPS says the man plead guilty during his first court appearance was was sentenced to 15 days in custody.
