Summer 2026 Market Season

Lethbridge broadcaster launching Dutch street food venture

A familiar voice in southern Alberta is stepping into a new role — this time in the food industry.

After more than 30 years in local media, broadcaster Tony Deys is working to launch a mobile poffertjes business aimed at bringing a taste of Dutch cuisine to Lethbridge.

Deys is known in the community for his work in television and radio, including years as a sportscaster with CTV News, as well as roles on local stations such as B93 and Country 95.5.

He has also been a longtime announcer for the Lethbridge Hurricanes and has appeared in local theatre productions.

Now, he is making a change.

Deys, who has Dutch roots, is raising funds through Kickstarter to launch a mobile food operation specializing in poffertjes — small, fluffy pancakes traditionally served warm with butter and powdered sugar.

If successful, the mobile setup will include specialized equipment imported from the Netherlands, along with a trailer, generator and food-safe preparation space designed to meet Alberta Health Services requirements.

The goal is to have the business operating in time for the summer 2026 market season.
