Canada’s Western Gateway hosting event aimed at helping trucking industry

Canada’s Western Gateway (CWG) Trade and Logistics Corridor will be hosting an information session aimed at helping the trucking industry with tips and practices to navigating crossing the Coutts border crossing as efficiently as possible.

CWG officials note, Saving Time & Money Crossing the Coutts Border will give freight haulers who transport goods up and down Highway 4 through the Coutts/Sweetgrass border crossing an opportunity to hear from a CBSA (Canada Border Services Agency) Superintendent and professional customs broker about best practices crossing the Canada – United States border.

Organizers say Canada’s Western Gateway brings together municipalities, industry, and government partners to strengthen Southern Alberta’s transportation and logistics sector. They help businesses connect to opportunities, build workforce capacity, improve supply chain resiliency, and position the region for long-term economic growth.

With coordinated regional support, CWG says it is ready for investment, innovation and new market access.

“Through the work we’ve been doing over the past year with local trucking companies, shippers, warehouses and other logistics agencies, we’ve gained a better understanding about what some of the hurdles can be for these companies.” says Rylan Howard, Industry Engagement Coordinator, Canada’s Western Gateway, in a press release. “Providing an opportunity for them to hear from professionals who work at the border crossing and help businesses move goods across that border each and every day, we hope will give attendees some insight to how to be best prepared when they pull up to the crossing down in Coutts.”

“The Canada Border Services Agency is proud to collaborate with partners through Canada’s Western Gateway to support efficient, secure, and transparent border operations” adds Chad Farncombe, Superintendent, CBSA. “Events like this help strengthen relationships with industry and improve how we facilitate trade and travel across the region.”

According to CWG officials, between 800-1200 commercial trucks move through the Coutts border crossing each day. They say this number accounts for nearly $16B of goods and products moving across the border on an annual basis.
