Lethbridge volunteer to be celebrated for decades of community service

A longtime volunteer with Interfaith Food Bank Society of Lethbridge is set to be celebrated for decades of service as part of National Volunteer Week

The food bank is hosting a volunteer appreciation luncheon scheduled for Friday, April 24, where 94-year-old Ted Richardson will receive a 30-year service award.

Organizers say the award is significant for the food bank, which has been operating for 36 years.

Richardson is reportedly its longest-serving volunteer and the first to receive a 30-year award.

The 94-year-old continues to volunteer regularly, helping assemble food hampers and taking part in fundraising events.

The luncheon is also set to recognize other volunteers for years of service and total hours contributed.

This year’s National Volunteer Week theme, “Ignite Volunteerism,” encourages Canadians to reconnect with their communities and highlights the role volunteers play in supporting local organizations.

Representatives from Volunteer Lethbridge are also expected to attend the event.

Organizers say the week provides an opportunity to recognize the contributions of volunteers and their impact on communities.
