Royal Canadian Lethbridge Legion helping return Canada General Service medal

The Royal Canadian Legion General Stewart Branch No. 4 has helped return a medal with strong ties to their history.

A media event was held April 22 as the Legion announced a Canada General Service Medal for the Fenia Raid, originally issued to Private John Stewart, who served in the Brampton Infantry Company of the 36th Peel Battalion, would be travelling to the Lorne Scots Regimental museum in Brampton, Ontario.

Stewart was the father of BGen John Stewart, who the Lethbridge Legion takes its name from.

“BGen Stewart gifted me this medal for safekeeping,” says Echo McCarley, niece of BGen Stewart. “As the last living descendant, it is a privilege for me to ensure this important military artifact finds its way back home to Brampton in the Lorne Scots Regimental Museum to honour his military service to Canada.”
