An Albertan will be the next Canadian in space.

The Canadian Space Agency says in a social media post that Joshua Kutryk has been assigned to the Crew-13 mission that will go to the International Space Station.

The agency says the flight will not launch before September of this year.

The post also says that Kutryk will “spend months living and working on the Space Station, conducting science studies and testing technologies.”

Kutryk was born in Fort Saskatchewan and raised near Beauvallon, located northwest of Lloyminster.

Another Albertan, Jenni Gibbons from Calgary, was part of the team at Mission Control during the Artemis II mission, which saw Canadian Jeremy Hansen orbit the Moon.

Gibbons was assigned the mission as Hansen’s backup and worked in communications during the flight.
