Raging Grannies protesting ADAP switch with street rally

Apr 23, 2026 | 4:19 PM

The Lethbridge Raging Grannies are holding their third rally of the month this Friday, in partnership with Friends of Medicare and Inclusion Lethbridge.

The rally is being held in protest of changes being brought forward by the Alberta government, which would switch some residents with disabilities from the Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH) program to the Alberta Disability Assistance Program (ADAP).

The province says ADAP will empower Albertans with disabilities to pursue fulfilling job opportunities while continuing to receive financial, health, personal, and employment support.

Raging Grannies says these changes come into effect July 1, 2026, and are causing stress to some of Lethbridge’s most vulnerable citizens.

Non-Profit Inclusion Alberta says those moved from AISH to ADAP could lose $200/month from their benefits and can only earn up to $350/month before their benefits get even smaller, as opposed to AISH, which allows residents to earn up to $1,032/month.

The Raging Grannies’ street rally goes from noon to 1:00 p.m. Friday, Apr. 24, at the intersection of 13 St. N and 18 Ave. N.

Lethbridge residents and visitors are invited to join in with signs, posters, and loud voices.

Canvassers with the Water Not Coal petition will also be attending to collect signatures.
