Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a Special Weather Statement for Lethbridge and surrounding areas.

Officials say bands of heavy snow are possible Thursday night through Saturday morning, with locally rapid snow accumulation and poor visibility.

Rapidly deteriorating weather conditions are expected with reduced visibilities in heavy snow over localized areas.

Snowfall totals will be highly variable, but meteorologists say some areas may see quick accumulations of up to 10 cm of snow.

Blowing snow is also possible overnight tonight and into Friday afternoon, causing poor visibility.

Drivers are cautioned to prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions.

Meantime, a Wind Warning has been issued for areas further east, including Medicine Hat and the surrounding region.

Strong winds that may cause damage are expected. Officials say strong northerly winds gusting to 90 km/h have developed.

Winds will continue to gust near 90 km/h through the day today. Winds will slowly weaken off in the overnight hours.

High-sided vehicles will be pushed around by the wind. Some property damage is possible. Officials say to secure loose objects and prepare for possible disruptions to transportation, services, and utilities.
