Egress Roadway Construction Underway
The City of Lethbridge is indicating that construction has started on a temporary gravel access road connecting Great Bear Boulevard West to Metis Trail West.
Back in November, Transportation and Transit General Manager Darwin Juell, in a committee report to city council, expressed the need for better emergency access.
A month later, councillors approved a project budget of $315,000 in funding to come from the Major Capital Projects Reserve.
The temporary connection generally follows the same alignment as the existing outline plan roadway of Great Bear Boulevard and connects directly to the existing gravel roadway along 25th Street/Metis Trail West.
The section of road, when finished, is expected to improve emergency response times to the growing westside neighbourhoods of Copperwood, The Crossings, Garry Station and Country Meadows.
Construction, the City says, should have a relatively low impact on residents.
