Heinen Family donates 100K to cardiac care at Chinook Regional

The Cardiac Care unit at the Chinook Regional Hospital is getting a financial boost after it received a sizeable donation towards its Bringing Hearts Home campaign.

The hospital’s foundation, which oversees fundraising efforts towards the health care facility, is reporting it’s received a contribution of $100,000 from Fern and Roelof Heinen, and their son Mark – the Heinens best known for operating the Home Hardware in Picture Butte and behind other stores in Coaldale, Taber, and Nanton.

“Like many families, ours has been touched by heart disease,” Fern Heinen shared.

“We know how important it is to have timely access to care and supporting this campaign is about ensuring that families across southern Alberta can receive that care close to home, when it matters most.”

Besides operating a number of businesses, Roelof has also been actively involved with helping to better health care in the region, serving as a member on the hospital foundation’s Board of Trustees for six years from 2006 to 2012.

His long-standing community service was also highlighted in 2021 when he was awarded with the Picture Butte & District Chamber of Commerce ‘Citizen of the Year.’

“The Heinen family represents the very best of community leadership,” Foundation CEO Crystal Elliott points out.

“Roelof’s past service to the Foundation, combined with their continued generosity, speaks to a deep and enduring commitment to this region. Their support will help ensure our communities are ready to benefit from the significant advancements in cardiac care now being realized.”
