Open fire ban in place for Lethbridge River Valley

Apr 29, 2026 | 7:47 PM

With the recent spell of drier weather, the City has decided to issue a fire ban for all open fires for a large section of the Lethbridge region.

“Current conditions, including warmer temperatures and low humidity, have created a high risk for fast-moving and uncontrolled fires. Even a small spark can quickly spread in dry grass and brush,” said a City release Wednesday afternoon.

“Effective immediately and until further notice, a fire ban is in place for all open fires in the City of Lethbridge River Valley. “

The advisory is asking residents to use extra caution, to not light any open fires, and ensure smoking materials are fully extinguished.

Environment & Climate Change Canada is forecasting temperatures to climb into the upper teens and lower 20’s during the day through Tuesday of next week, with overnight lows staying above the freezing mark, providing little or no moisture to an already dry ground.

Full details on the ban can be found here.
