"I think they realized I was a hockey player"

Local hockey product Kris Versteeg enters Lethbridge Sports Hall of Fame

It was a good turnout Friday night for the Lethbridge Sports Hall of Fame’s induction ceremony at the Trade & Convention Centre.

Seven new entries were added into the hall including former Lethbridge Hurricane and Chicago Blackhawk Kris Versteeg who remembers playing hockey at a young age.

“I used to play for my church team up until about seven years old, but first real memory is actually when I got into a bit of a fight in the corner,” Versteeg recalls.

“My grandpa had to pull me off someone with an open skate, so, I think from there, they realized I was a hockey player.”

During his NHL career, Versteeg played with the Chicago Blackhawks winning the Stanley Cup twice in 2010 and 2013.

He admits one of his proudest moments as a hockey player was to return to Lethbridge with the cup for the first time in 2010.

He now lives with his family in Southern Ontario, and if Wikipedia is correct, will turn 40 this coming Wednesday, May 13th.
