Faye HeavyShield to receive Honorary Doctor of Letters from U of L

Known for her pride of the Blackfoot culture, Faye HeavyShield has earned national and international acclaim.

Later this month, the visual artist, mentor, and teacher will be able to add an honorary degree from the University of Lethbridge to her list of recognitions.

U of L chancellor Terry Whitehead calls her willingness to share her craft with Blackfoot youth and support the work of developing artists, “truly exemplary.”

HeavyShield will receive an Honorary Doctor of Letters during the university’s first convocation ceremony May 28, 2026.
