Mayor Brent Feyter on ER closures in Fort Macleod

“We’d want them to be here, not that they feel forced to.”

Staff shortages in the ER department at Fort Macleod’s Health Centre in recent weeks has prompted a number of overnight closures.

While it’s a concern to the community’s mayor, Brent Feyter is avoiding being critical of the situation.

“What we can do as a small town is to promote ourselves, as best we can, to doctors who want to work here,” said Feyter.

“There are so many opportunities for them, so to think they have to be in Fort Macleod is a hard one. We’d want them to be here, not that they feel forced to.”

During the series of closures, calls to the hospital in Fort Macleod were transferred to the Chinook Regional Hospital and, where necessary, urgent care patients were transported by ambulance to Lethbridge.
