Potential for fast-spreading, high intensity fires
Extreme fire danger rating heading into work week in Southern Alberta
May 26, 2026 | 10:37 AM
With gusty winds and no rain in almost a week, the fire danger for Southern Alberta has been elevated back up to Extreme.
Under the classification, forest fuels, which you’d find on the ground, are considered as extremely dry and pose a very serious fire risk.
The rating also warns of the potential for fast-spreading, high-intensity fires, which are very difficult to control.
The southeast region is also classified on the high end of the drought code, which indicates the dryness of large vegetation.
