"Bringing the education down to Lethbridge"

Newly-expanded medical training at U of L starting in July

Starting in July, the Southern Alberta Medical Program is beginning a new chapter.

Associate dean Richard Buck explains, while they’ve had students at the University of Lethbridge in the past, it’s only been part of their training regiment.

“So, previously if they wanted to go through their precursor, their first half of medical school, they were in Calgary at the Calgary campus, but now what’s happening is we’re bringing the education down to Lethbridge. So, that’s what’s a bit different. We’ve done it before, but never from the first day.”

The hope is, by offering a fulltime program outside a larger centre, like Calgary, that students will fall in love and connect with the community, and decide not to leave.
