First large-scale development in years underway in Lethbridge West
Calling it the largest development to be built during his term in office, Lethbridge mayor Blaine Hyggen is welcoming a new residential and commercial expansion on the city’s west side that will bring with it 450 new family homes.
“It’s great to be able to see the development here, especially the local trades, and local investment,” said Mayor Hyggen, following a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday morning for Core Crossings, being built near the intersection of Aquatania Boulevard West and Britannia Boulevard West.
“The more that you actually put into a community, the less traffic you’re going to need to cross a bridge to other commercial places you may visit,” the mayor added, eluding to talk over the years of adding a third crossing to alleviate some of the traffic congestion between the city’s main core and Lethbridge West.
Expected to have the first homes opened to residents by the Summer of 2027, Cedar Ridge Homes owner Lonny Hoy says it’s been close to two years of working with the City, since the process started.
