Bulls open ’26 regular season with a big win over rival Brooks

The Lethbridge Bulls opened their 2026 Western Canadian Baseball League schedule on a winning note Thursday night, upending the Brooks Bombers 8-3 at Spitz Stadium.

With many of his regular players still in college, head coach Ryan MacDonald was able to evaluate some new talent.

“I don’t know a lot of these guys…the newer guys coming in. Just starting to get to know them over the past couple of days,” MacDonald said after the game.

“Now you get to see them actually play. I’m pretty excited about what we have so far.”

Hometown boy Shaye McTavish was on the mound for the Bulls, giving up just five hits over six innings, but threw 82 pitches.

“Pretty normal for me (to throw so many pitches)…probably even go past the ’82’ mark, but I was happy with it today,” McTavish said in his post-game comments.

“Trusted the defence. Trusted the boys’ bats and we got the dub (W).”

The Bulls are back on the field, again, Friday with a home game against the Swift Current 57’s, before hitting the road for games in Okotoks Saturday and Sunday.

First pitch Friday is a little after 7 at Spitz Stadium.
