Lethbridge County residents being asked to prepare for significant rainfall, wind

May 30, 2026 | 1:22 PM

With significant rainfall and strong winds expected this weekend, Lethbridge County is urging residents to be prepared for whatever Mother Nature brings our way.

Among its suggestions: to move downspouts away from foundations, clear gutters and eavestroughs, check culverts and ditches for blockages, and make sure sump pumps are working properly.

It’s also urging extra caution, when driving, with the potential of pooling water and washed out roads.

With so much rain in such a short amount of time, it warns that water levels in coulees and low-lying areas can rise quickly – that includes rivers.

As for the forecast, Environment & Climate Change Canada is indicating that rain will begin Saturday night and continue through Tuesday, with the most concentrated amounts on Saturday night (10-20 mm) and Sunday (15-25 mm) with winds gusting to 50 kilometres-an-hour during the same time frame, and a big change in temperature, with daytime highs barely reaching double digits.
