With the Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation nearing its $30 million goal for a new cardiac care centre, a Lethbridge cardiologist and educator is looking forward to seeing it become reality.
Dr. Sayeh Zielke says the new centre, to take up empty space currently available in the hospital, will mean patients will have complete care closer to home.
“The prevention part takes place in the community. The diagnostics and intervention providing care in the hospital, and cardiac rehabilitation and education will be, again, happening in the communities,” Dr. Zielke outlined.
In a given year, anywhere between 3000 and 3500 patients are transferred to Calgary from rural health care facilities here in the South.
