The Lethbridge Police Service says the latest community survey found that close to 70-percent of residents feel safe living in the city.

In a presentation to the Community Issues Committee Tuesday, police chief Shahin Mehdizadeh outlined the issues his department will focus on.

“Primary concerns provided to us by our citizens were drug activities and homelessness issues,” the chief said.

“And, top priorities our citizens spoke to us about focusing on drugs, crimes against persons, property crimes, and also, crime prevention initiatives.”

Along the same lines, one of the recommendations of a Partners in Policing forum was for the LPS to focus on strengthening alternative response options, like its Policing and Crisis Team, or PACT, and whether it should be expanded.
