'We can purchase other things we need'

Food donations greatly appreciated; cash also welcome at Lethbridge Food Bank

Tim Rempel is getting settled into his new role as the executive director of the Lethbridge Food Bank.

Although fairly new, Rempel says he knows the community support through food donations has always been there, particularly around the holiday season.

However, he says, cash donations can also help to go a long way, as well.

“It’s not so much donations of food items which we definitely do appreciate. I don’t want to mitigate that,” Rempel opens.

“(But) with money, though, we can actually purchase what we need, so if we have an over abundance of something, we can purchase the other things that we do need for the hampers that we give out.”

Food banks across Canada, including in Lethbridge, have a seen a jump in demand, particularly since the pandemic as families and individuals cope with a burgeoning rise in the cost of living.

First opened in 1982, the Lethbridge Food Bank is located at 1016 2nd Avenue South and is open to its clients year round.
