An overnight staffing shortage has prompted the Fort Macleod Health Centre to close its Emergency Department doors to incoming patients from 11 p.m. Monday until 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Alberta Health Services confirms it will re-open Tuesday morning to provide 24-hour service.

“During the temporary closure, nursing staff will remain on-site to provide care for long-term care residents,” said an AHS release Monday evening.

“Alberta Health Services is working to ensure local residents continue to have access to the care they need during this time.”

Patients requiring emergency medical attention are still asked to call 9-1-1.

Emergency phone calls during the closure will re-assigned to Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge.

Emergency services can still be accessed over the eight hours at Chinook Regional Hospital, the Pincher Creek Health Centre, Cardston Health Centre or Claresholm Community Health Centre.

For non-emergency matters, residents are urged to call Health Link at 8-1-1.
