Environment & Climate Change Canada has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for a large section of eastern and central Alberta, including Lethbridge.

It warns that conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening.

The storms, the weather agency adds, are capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail, and heavy rain.

The watch covers an area from the Alberta-Saskatchewan boundary west to Fort Macleod and north from the U-S border through Calgary and into the Red Deer region.
