A Tornado warning was issued for Medicine Hat area on Tuesday afternoon

A Tornado warning has been removed for the Medicine Hat area after a system has moved through the area.

A severe thunderstorm watch remained in place.

At 3:52 p.m. Environment Canada meteorologists were tracking a severe thunderstorm that had the possibly of producing a tornado.

Damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall were also possible.

This dangerous thunderstorm at the time was located 10 km west of Medicine Hat and was moving to the southeast at 65 km/h.

Communities in the path included southwest Medicine Hat and Seven Persons.

The weather provider at the time said it was a very dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation and issued the following.

Take cover immediately in a basement, interior room, or a sturdy shelter when threatening weather approaches.

If no shelter is available, lie in a low spot and protect your head from flying debris.

If you are out on the water when threatening weather approaches, return to shore and seek shelter, if possible.

Otherwise, move away from the path of the tornado to escape.

Wear your lifejacket, lie face down and protect your head.

Tornado warnings are issued when a thunderstorm is producing or is likely to produce a tornado.

Environment Canada had initially issued a tornado warning for the Suffield and Ralston area.

Meteorologists said at the time that a severe thunderstorm that may be producing a tornado was located about 15 kilometres west of Suffield at 3:15 p.m. and was moving southeast at 65 km/h.
