Encampment strategy will also get help

Mayor thankful City will receive $2.7M funding package towards safety, well-being

A significant contribution is going towards the encampment situation in the City of Lethbridge, with the announcement that close to $800,000 in funding is on its way from the Province and Ottawa.

The money, to be divided over three years, is part of a larger $2.7 million package that the city says will address community safety and well-being in Lethbridge.

Mayor Blaine Hyggen welcomes the funding, albeit something he jokingly says will ultimately be paid for by taxpayers.

“Anytime we can get funding that isn’t coming from local taxation (it’s good), but let’s be honest, it’s all coming from our pockets. We are all taxpayers, whether it’s coming federally, provincially, or locally, but it’s great to have a piece of the pie back into our community. So, I’m very excited that we’re able to move forward and help some of those folks in the community.”
