Canada’s World Cup loss to Morocco draws record TV audience, Bell Media says
TORONTO — Canada’s 3-0 loss to Morocco in the Round of 16 drew the largest television audience ever for a Canadian FIFA World Cup match, Bell Media said Monday.
The broadcaster, citing preliminary Numeris data, said the game averaged 5.4 million viewers across TSN, RDS, CTV, Noovo and Crave, making it the largest non-final World Cup broadcast on record in Canada.
Bell said 11.7 million Canadians watched at least part of Saturday’s match, with the audience peaking at 7.3 million viewers as Canada searched for a late goal.
The broadcaster also said 28.2 million Canadians have watched some portion of its World Cup coverage since the tournament began June 11.
