Shoes for Kids fundraiser returns next month for sixth year

Jul 10, 2026 | 3:00 PM

The Shoes for Kids YQL Foundation is, once again, looking to collect new shoes for kids going back to school this Fall.

Mallory Kristjanson, with the foundation, recalls the idea was generated from one particular incident she took note of.

“There was a young lady walking to school in sandals. It was a snow storm,” explained Kristjanson.

“So, three of us came together and we noticed the gap immediately that there were multiple kids that did not have access to brand new runners. This means when students don’t have brand new pairs of shoes or even have shoes to participate in extra curricular, they’re not engaging in activities like their peers are.”

This year’s Shoes for Kids fundraiser is set for Saturday, Aug. 15 at Murray Chevrolet on 26th Avenue South.

It goes from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. and includes a barbecue, beginning at 11.

Kristjanson says if you’re not able to make the event, you can drop off a new pair of runners during the week at the Lethbridge Police Services front counter on 1st Avenue South.
