Safety measures already in place

Town of Coalhurst reviews traffic and pedestrian safety after close call with child

Jul 13, 2026 | 12:00 PM

The Town of Coalhurst is looking closely at student and pedestrian safety after a close call with a child in the community recently.

It happened near Coalhurst Elementary and led to a discussion at last Monday’s Council meeting.

Among the concerns being raised: vehicle speeds, driver behaviour, U-turn activity, and overall safety for pedestrians.

Staff with the Town say that several safety measures are already in place.

They include: playground zone signage, marked crosswalks, pedestrian-activated flashing beacons, and bump-outs.

For now, administration has said it’ll continue to monitor the situation, but isn’t ruling out additional measures in the future.
