Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Lethbridge and most of southern Alberta

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for Lethbridge and most of southern Alberta. 

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

Severe thunderstorms are expectced to develop in the area this afternoon and evening. The threat of severe thunderstorms will continue into the overnight hours over Central and Eastern Alberta.

Some severe thunderstorms may produce tornadoes. Tornado Watches are in place for areas of western and northern Alberta on Wednesday.

Local utility outages are possible. Damage to roofs, fences, branches or soft shelters is possible.

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms capable of producing damaging hail, wind or rain.
