Protecting 'critical infrastructure'

Lethbridge Fire & Emergency Services receives grant for wildfire preparations

Lethbridge Fire & Emergency Services is adding some proverbial tools in its tool chest with a $42,000 grant that will go towards wildfire preparedness and sprinkler deployment plans for the city.

In a release yesterday, LFES said the plans will help to focus on protecting critical infrastructure and being ready for any eventuality.

It’ll consider such things as common wind patterns, building materials, and hydrant and water availability, in the event of a wildfire, including just outside of its borders.

Communications & Stragegy deputy chief Kevin McKeown says the project will help officials to understand where wildfire risks exist.
